Donut Falls
Our Experience at Donut Falls

Donut Falls… With a name that sounds like a level from Super Mario World why wouldn’t you want to visit it? This is an awesome hike that has something to offer for everyone. The majority of the trail is very laid back and good for all ages and skill levels. It is only about a mile long and would have took us about 40 minutes to get there and back if we hadn’t stuck around to take pictures and play in the waterfall, so we recommend you schedule a little more time. This place definitely deserves more than just a glance!

Donut Falls is located up Big Cottonwood Canyon in Salt Lake City. To reach the trailhead simply take I-215 until you reach the 6200 South exit. Get on Wasatch Boulevard where you will soon see a clearly marked intersection leading you up Big Cottonwood Canyon. About nine miles in, you will take a right and head up past the Jordan Pines picnic area. Continue on this road until you find the parking lot with restrooms. The trailhead starts on the south side of the parking lot behind the restrooms.

With how popular this hake is its almost impossible to miss the trail. As you follow the trail you’ll noticed its clearly marked by signs until you really need them. All you really need to remember is after crossing the bridge, take a left. Shortly after, the trail will split into two directions, make sure you take a left. This is where the hike gets really fun, the trail will begin to follow the river up until you reach the bottom of the waterfall and will require you to climb down some rocks.

Once you reach the waterfall you will have to climb up the rocks to reach the cave that the water has created over years of erosion. This part of the hike is a little more difficult, some of the terrain can become rugged and slippery, so take caution when climbing up the falls. Once you have had your fill, head back down the same way you came and let everyone you pass know that they are in for a treat!
